SSA Government Relations Policy Fellowship

About This Program

A science-policy fellowship from the Seismological Society of America for student and early-career members who want to understand how earth-science research reaches Congress. Up to two fellowships run each year from June to May. Fellows take part in the two-day Geoscience-Congressional Visits Day in Washington and serve on the SSA Government Relations Committee, which meets virtually around five times a year. Support covers up to $2,000 for Geo-CVD travel and lodging plus a $1,500 travel grant and complimentary registration for the SSA Annual Meeting. Open to U.S. citizens and residents with a strong interest in policy and demonstrated communication skill. Seismology and earth-science students are unusually poorly served by the standard science-policy fellowship listings, which skew toward biomedical and physics disciplines, so this is a rare discipline-specific route into policy work.
