The German Research Foundation's Emmy Noether Programme enables exceptionally qualified early-career researchers to lead an independent junior research group for up to six years, qualifying them for a university professorship. It is open to postdocs, normally within four years of the doctorate with at least two years of postdoctoral experience, at universities or research institutions in Germany. Funding covers staff, consumables, and the group leader's own salary.
