About This Program

A cost-sharing agreement between the VA and participating institutions that covers tuition and fees above the Post-9/11 GI Bill cap — the gap that otherwise puts expensive private engineering, computing and medical programmes, out-of-state rates and foreign universities out of reach. The school contributes a set amount per student and the VA matches it. Applicants must qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill at the 100 per cent level, generally through 36 months of active duty and an honourable discharge, or by receiving a Purple Heart after 11 September 2001. The process is to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility, submit it to the school's financial aid office and request participation; each school sets its own enrolment capacity, so places can be limited. The VA's Yellow Ribbon school finder and GI Bill Comparison Tool list participating institutions.
