Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E, Chapter 31)

About This Program

Formerly Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, VR&E supports service members and veterans whose service-connected disability limits or prevents their ability to work. Rather than a fixed award, it assigns a counsellor and funds a track chosen with them: retraining for a new occupation, education toward a degree or certification, help finding a new job, support returning to a former employer, self-employment and business start-up assistance, or independent living services. Tuition, fees, books, supplies and a subsistence allowance can be covered where training is the agreed path, which frequently means a funded route into engineering technology, IT, cybersecurity or health technology roles. Wounded, injured or ill service members can begin the process through the Integrated Disability Evaluation System while still on active duty.
