About This Program

A VA education benefit for the children and surviving spouses of service members and Selected Reserve members who died on or after 11 September 2001 — in the line of duty while on active duty, or from a service-connected disability within 120 days of discharge. It provides up to 36 months of Post-9/11 GI Bill-level support covering tuition and fees, a housing allowance, books and supplies, tutorial assistance, national exams, licensing and certification tests, work-study, and relocation help for rural students. Children must be 18 or have completed high school or a GED. Fry Scholars are also the group eligible to apply for the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship once their entitlement runs low, making this the entry point to a fully funded STEM degree for survivors.
