United States Coast Guard Academy
The smallest of the US service academies and the only one that does not require a congressional nomination — admission is purely on merit, with roughly 300 cadets admitted a year from thousands of applicants. It offers nine majors, most of them technical: civil engineering, electrical engineering, cyber systems, marine and environmental sciences, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and marine engineering, operations research, plus government and management. Graduates receive a commission as a Coast Guard officer and a guaranteed leadership position. Early Action applications close on 15 October.
