About This Program

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors runs a dedicated education support service for the surviving spouses and children of service members who died in the line of duty or from a service-connected cause. Full-time education staff help survivors identify and align federal, state and branch-specific benefits with private scholarships, explain eligibility for the Fry Scholarship and the Chapter 35 DEA programme, provide talking points for schools and universities, and assist with applications. The service also runs a searchable financial-aid tool restricted to the military survivor community, the four-day TAPS College Experience for surviving rising sophomores and juniors, and an education care package for students starting college. Support is free; contact is by phone on 800-959-TAPS or by email.
