Student Steel Bridge Competition (ASCE/AISC)

Official Website asce.org

About This Program

A civil and structural engineering competition run jointly by the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Steel Construction, in which student teams design a scale-model steel bridge spanning roughly 20 feet and carrying 2,500 pounds, fabricate it themselves, and then assemble it under timed conditions at competition. Bridges are load-tested, weighed and judged on aesthetics as well as construction speed and economy. Teams qualify through one of 19 regional competitions held at ASCE Student Symposia, with roughly 40 to 45 schools advancing to the North American national finals. Rules for the 2027 cycle are released in September 2026.
