Administered by the Fisher House Foundation and funded through the commissary system, this programme aims to award at least one $2,000 scholarship at every commissary location that receives eligible applications. Children of active-duty, Reserve and retired military members qualify. Because awards are allocated per commissary rather than nationally, the odds at a given installation depend on local application volume, which makes it one of the better-value applications for military dependents at smaller or overseas installations. Scholarship cheques are normally mailed in late July.
