A collegiate design series run by SAE International in which student teams conceive, design, fabricate and test a radio-controlled aircraft that must take off, fly a mission and land while optimally meeting published mission requirements. The series runs in three classes, Regular, Advanced and Micro, and a substantial share of each team's score comes from a written design report and an oral presentation to industry judges rather than flight alone. Two regional events, Aero Design East and Aero Design West, are held each spring, with registration for the following season opening in October.
