Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
A four-year registered apprenticeship at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College combining 7,360 on-the-job hours with 640 hours of paid related instruction. Coursework runs from safety, hazard awareness, DC electrical theory, and orientation to the trade in year one, through AC electrical theory, generation and distribution fundamentals, voltage regulation, power quality, and underground distribution systems in year two, into single-phase equipment and energized line safe work practices and poly-phase equipment and construction in years three and four, finishing with substations, metering, emergency response for line workers, renewable energy, and capstone projects. Students first complete NWTC's nine-month Electric Power Distribution programme, then secure a sponsoring municipality or utility employer, which registers the apprenticeship contract with Wisconsin's Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards.
