National Institutes of Health
A financial-need-based scholarship for undergraduates committed to careers in biomedical, behavioural and social science research, providing up to $20,000 per academic year for tuition, educational and reasonable living expenses. Scholarships are awarded for one year and renewable up to two more. Each year of support carries two paid service obligations in the NIH Intramural Research Program: a ten-week full-time summer internship at NIH immediately after the scholarship year, and one year of full-time NIH work after graduation, which may be deferred until an advanced degree is completed. Scholars work in a Principal Investigator's research group; the summer obligation is served in Bethesda, Maryland, while the post-graduation obligation may be served on any NIH campus.
