A federal HRSA scholarship that pays tuition and eligible fees, an annual payment toward other reasonable educational costs, and a monthly living stipend for up to four school years, in exchange for full-time primary care service at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area. The service obligation is a minimum of two years and a maximum of four, scaled to the years of support received. Eligible disciplines are allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, and postgraduate degrees or certificates in nurse midwifery, physician assistant and nurse practitioner education. Applicants must be US citizens or nationals, eligible for federal employment, and enrolled or accepted full time at an accredited US school. Scholars may later apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program after completing the service commitment.
