NEIEP Elevator Constructor Apprenticeship

About This Program

The National Elevator Industry Educational Program runs the apprenticeship that trains elevator constructors to assemble, install and replace elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and moving walkways. It is a four- to five-year earn-while-you-learn programme: apprentices complete 2,000 hours of supervised full-time work per calendar year plus 100 to 200 classroom hours annually, and are paid throughout, starting at 50 percent of a constructor's wage and rising at a fixed rate each year. Entry requires a high-school diploma or GED, a minimum age of 17 and work authorisation, and selection runs through the Elevator Industry Aptitude Test followed by an interview. Recruitment opens in defined windows rather than continuously, and candidates can register for notification of the next one.
