A North Dakota University System programme that matches private-sector money with state funds, dollar for dollar, up to $17,000 per recipient, split across two tracks. The scholarship track supports students in qualifying certificate, associate or final-year bachelor's programmes tied to high-need occupations, requires full-time study and a 2.50 GPA, and is capped at four semesters or six quarters. The loan repayment track assists graduates newly hired into designated high-need occupations within the previous 24 months, paying up to $5,667 a year or one third of outstanding principal, whichever is less, over three years, and covering both federal and private student loans. More than 100 in-demand occupations qualify, including computer programming, mechanical engineering, electrical work, welding, nursing and teaching, with lists reviewed annually by the Workforce Development Council and Job Service North Dakota. Scholarship recipients must live and work in North Dakota in their occupation for three years afterwards. Because the state cannot pay before matching funds arrive, awards depend on a sponsoring employer or donor.
