A nine-month NASA engineering challenge in which student teams design, build, test and launch a high-powered rocket carrying a scientific or engineering payload. Teams work through a sequence of formal design reviews that mirror the NASA engineering design life cycle, culminating in a final launch event near Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The competition runs a University Division open to any US college or university and a K-12 Division for qualifying middle schools, high schools and informal education institutions serving grades 6 to 12. Proposals for the 2027 competition are being accepted, with the final launch scheduled for April 2027.
