A nine-month NASA challenge tasking student teams to design and build human-powered or remote-controlled rovers able to traverse simulated lunar and planetary terrain, along with mission tools to complete field tasks. Teams complete a series of design reviews modelled on the NASA engineering life cycle before competing at a final event at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Open to US and international students at the middle school, high school, college and university levels, as well as informal education institutions. Proposals for the 2027 event are open, with the competition held in April 2027.
