A British government scholarship that funds American graduates to take a postgraduate degree at any UK university, including one-year master's programmes of at least ten months, two consecutive master's degrees, or a full PhD or DPhil where funding is typically guaranteed for three years subject to academic progress. Selection weights academic merit, leadership potential and ambassadorial potential equally, so it is genuinely open to science and engineering candidates rather than skewed to the humanities. Applicants must be US citizens holding a first undergraduate degree from an accredited US four-year institution by September 2027, must have graduated after April 2024, and must hold a minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale - rounded GPAs are not accepted. Candidates who have previously studied at a British university or hold UK qualifications such as GCSEs or A Levels are ineligible. The 2027 application cycle is live.
