About This Program

A US Department of Energy competition, run by the Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office through the American-Made programme, inviting interdisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students to solve real-world marine energy challenges across coastal, maritime and offshore markets under the theme Powering the Blue Economy. Teams must be at least half undergraduate or associate-degree students, and work through business plan, technical design and community connections challenges over eight to ten months. The 2027 cycle carries a total prize pool of 470,000 dollars across both water power competitions, with teams eligible for up to 15,000 dollars each and a final event in May 2027.
