Duke University's fully funded award for international undergraduates, established in 2010 through a gift from Martha L. and Bruce A. Karsh. It covers tuition, room and board, mandatory fees and demonstrated need beyond those costs, and adds three summers of funding for research, unpaid internships and other academic advancement - which is what makes it usable for laboratory research or unpaid technical placements that a tuition-only award would not support. Eligibility is restricted to international citizens; dual US citizenship disqualifies an applicant, prior bachelor's degree holders are ineligible, and demonstrated financial need is required. There is no separate scholarship application and no nomination process: students apply to Duke for admission and request financial aid through the standard channels. The current cohort includes scholars from 23 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
