Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
A two-month summer research placement in Japan for pre- and post-doctoral researchers from North America and Europe, run by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science as a component of its Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan and delivered in partnership with The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI). Participants receive an orientation on Japanese culture and Japanese language lessons, then pursue research under a host researcher at a Japanese university or research institute. All fields of the natural sciences, humanities and social sciences are eligible, and the candidate must be majoring or researching in a related field. Candidates must be citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada or Sweden; applicants from other countries with equivalent status may apply if approved by one of those nominating authorities. Japanese nationals and people already resident in Japan at the application deadline are not eligible. Recruitment runs through overseas partners including CNRS in France, DAAD in Germany, the Embassy of Canada in Japan with the National Research Council, and STINT in Sweden - so deadlines vary by country.
