Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)

About This Program

A scholarship funded annually by the Government of Japan and administered by the World Bank for mid-career professionals from developing member countries pursuing a development-related master's degree. Since 1987 it has supported over 7,000 scholars. The package covers tuition, a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, a travel allowance and health insurance, and there are separate tracks for developing-country nationals and for Japanese nationals. Applications run in two annual windows rather than a single deadline. Development-related is read broadly, so applicants in water and sanitation engineering, energy, agriculture, environmental management, public health and infrastructure compete alongside economics and policy candidates - which makes it a genuine option for STEM graduates moving into applied development work.
