Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
The Japan Student Services Organization is the government body that administers financial assistance for international students in Japan, and this is its central listing of the schemes available. Three routes are covered: the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students, for students who arranged and funded their own place at a Japanese institution; the Student Exchange Support Program, a scholarship for study in Japan under an inter-institutional exchange agreement; and the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship. Because JASSO scholarships are generally administered through the host Japanese institution rather than applied for directly, prospective students should check with the university they are applying to. Useful as the single official starting point for funding a STEM degree or exchange in Japan.
