Apprenticeship training of the International Union of Operating Engineers, chartered in 1896, covering heavy equipment operation, hoisting and crane work, and stationary engineering. Training combines paid on-the-job hours with classroom instruction and is delivered at more than 100 local union training centres across the United States and Canada plus the union's International Training and Education Center (ITEC). The IUOE also represents members beyond the construction trades, including nurses and other health industry workers, public employees and petrochemical classifications, and maintains a Tradeswomen Committee.
