University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
A 32-credit-hour, coursework-only computer science master’s from the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, delivered through Coursera but taught and graded by Illinois faculty and teaching assistants. Students complete eight courses in as little as one year or take up to five, and can graduate either with the core MCS - covering artificial intelligence, databases, human-computer interaction, software engineering and scientific computing - or with the Data Science track (MCS-DS), which specifies courses in machine learning, data mining, data visualisation and cloud computing at no additional credit hours. The GRE is not required. Online students are not eligible for research or teaching assistantships, though domestic students may qualify for federal student aid.
