Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
IIT Kanpur's flagship summer research programme, launched on 8 May 2006 and run by the Office of Outreach Activities. SURGE places undergraduates with faculty mentors for roughly eight weeks from the second week of May to the second week of July, with the aim of building a research culture and interdisciplinary habits early in a degree. Three streams of applicants are accepted: undergraduates from other engineering colleges across India, IIT Kanpur's own undergraduates who must first identify a faculty mentor, and up to four students from Nepal and Bhutan combined. For the 2026 cycle the advertisement appeared on 28 January, registration ran from 2 February to 22 February, and results were declared on 23 March.
