The Home Builders Institute is a national non-profit that trains people for the construction trades at no cost to the student, funded instead by corporate sponsors, state and local grants and individual donors. It delivers training through several distinct routes: a Job Corps partnership for young adults aged 16 to 24, community-based BuildStrong Academies, dedicated programmes for justice-involved individuals and for transitioning service members and veterans, and Future Builders of America, a national curriculum licensed to schools and career and technical education programmes. Trades taught include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and roofing. Because the model is curriculum-plus-placement rather than a single campus, eligibility varies by route, but the no-cost rule applies across all of them.
