The undergraduate research fellowship of FAPESP, the Sao Paulo State Research Foundation, awarded to students regularly enrolled at higher education institutions in the State of Sao Paulo so they can develop scientific or technological research under a supervisor. FAPESP applies roughly a third of its budget to its fellowship programmes and selects all fellows by peer review. Awards carry a monthly stipend plus a Technical Reserve equal to 10 per cent of the annual fellowship value, and FAPESP treats a concrete plan for a research internship abroad as a positive element in an application, fundable through its Research Internship Abroad (BEPE) modality. Applications are submitted through a supervisor holding an eligible FAPESP-supported project.
