Two $7,500 scholarships awarded annually by the Statistics Division of the American Society for Quality to graduate students enrolled in or accepted to a master's or doctoral programme in the United States or Canada with a concentration in applied statistics or quality management. Named for Dr Ellis R. Ott, a Rutgers professor and an ASQ founder. Applications are accepted from 1 January to 1 May for the following academic year. The programme has distributed over $405,000 to 69 students across 27 years. Applied statistics and quality management sit awkwardly between the pure-statistics and industrial-engineering funding streams, and this is one of the few awards written specifically for that intersection.
