The Federal Highway Administration's fellowship for students pursuing degrees in transportation-related disciplines, covering both engineering and non-engineering fields. Running in its current form since the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 and tracing back to graduate research fellowships in 1983, the programme has awarded over $50 million and generally results in 150-200 merit-based grants a year, subject to available funds. Three categories are offered: the DDETFP Graduate Fellowship, the DDETFP Local Competition and DDETFP Grants for Research Fellowship. Applications open through a notice of funding opportunity on Grants.gov; fellows work across highway, aviation and maritime infrastructure and move into academia, industry and public service.
