About This Program

A roughly 22-week hybrid pre-apprenticeship preparing students to work as electrical power-line installers and repairers on the cables and wires used in electrical power and distribution systems. A 10-week core curriculum at Mott Community College in Flint covers EIF, industrial safety, basic electricity, apprenticeship, math, and physical fitness, followed by climbing clinics, orientation, and an 11-week Climb School at the Consumers Energy facility in Marshall, Michigan. Prospective students start by completing an interest form and attending an information session. Completion does not guarantee employment with Consumers Energy, though the college notes the field carries more than 100 job openings a year.
