A scholarship for college juniors and seniors that pays tuition, books and fees annually while the student finishes the degree, and simultaneously makes them an active-duty Coast Guard member at the rank of Officer Trainee drawing E-3 salary and full military healthcare. The first summer is spent at boot camp, after which the scholar returns to campus full-time. Scholars enlist on a four-year contract; completing Officer Candidate School ends the enlisted contract and converts it to a three-year active-duty commitment as a commissioned officer. Because the award combines a salary with tuition coverage, the total value is materially larger than a tuition-only scholarship, and it is one of the few routes that pays a student to complete an engineering, marine science or cyber degree. Applications go through a Coast Guard recruiter.
