CNPq is Brazil's National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and the country's main funder of research scholarships across science and engineering. Its own figures at the time of listing report roughly 107,000 active scholarships and 16,000 active projects. The range is unusually wide: undergraduate research scholarships, master's and doctoral funding, productivity fellowships for established researchers, international research cooperation, industry-partnered doctorates, and dedicated calls in biotechnology, artificial intelligence and innovation. It also runs targeted initiatives for Black, indigenous and other historically underrepresented scientists seeking international research placements. CNPq maintains the Plataforma Lattes, a database of around nine million researcher CVs that doubles as the best way to find a prospective Brazilian supervisor. Site is in Portuguese.
