Canadian Mathematical Society
Canada's premier national advanced mathematics competition, written by invitation each March as a three-hour proctored paper, with the Canadian Junior Mathematical Olympiad running simultaneously for students in grade ten or below. Competitors must attend secondary school full time, be under 20 as of 30 June of the competition year and not have enrolled at a post-secondary institution. Students qualify mainly through strong results on the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge in October, through the February CMO Qualifying Repechage, or as winners of regional competitions such as the Alberta High School Mathematics Competition. Winners receive medals and prize money, with CAD$2,000 for the gold medallist, plus the CMO Championship Cup and the Matthew Brennan Award for an exceptional solution.
