About This Program

A Cancer Research UK scheme run through its research centres in collaboration with Black in Cancer and the Windsor Fellowship, open to people who self-identify as being from a Black heritage background. The award is a fully funded four-year PhD studentship including stipend and research costs, with support deliberately built in at every stage rather than bolted on: pastoral support from a Windsor Fellowship-trained mentor, an academic mentor within the host centre, a leadership programme of seminar workshops on resilience, presenting, team working, goal setting and navigating the workplace, and Black in Cancer career development seminars. CRUK also supports candidates through the application itself, including interpreting the guidelines. Applications are reviewed once a year and are expected to open in September 2026.
