Up to $20,000 per recipient for full-time graduate students with an active thesis or research project in HVAC&R or another ASHRAE-related technology, supervised by a faculty advisor who submits the application on the student's behalf. The money is released in two $10,000 instalments — the first on confirmation of enrolment, the second on documented attendance at an ASHRAE meeting — with a further $3,000 honorarium for publishing or presenting the thesis research. Between ten and twenty-five awards are typically made each year and applicants are notified in mid-July. Students anywhere in the world are eligible and ASHRAE membership is encouraged but not required. Past recipients cannot reapply.
