About This Program

Post-secondary financial assistance for the sons, daughters and legally adopted children of transportation construction workers killed or permanently disabled on the job, covering the airport, bridge, marine, ports and waterways, public transit, road, railroad, tunnel and utility sectors. The parent must have been employed by a transportation construction firm or a transportation public agency at the time of death or disabling injury, and students must attend a post-secondary institution that requires a high school diploma or equivalent. At least two letters of recommendation from teachers are required. Established in autumn 1999 by Roanoke, Virginia contractors Stan and Jack Lanford, the fund has provided nearly US$1 million through 230 scholarships to students in 33 states.
