Alaska's merit award from the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, open to Alaska residents graduating from an Alaska public, private or home school. Three tiers apply: up to $7,000 a year at 3.5 GPA or ACT 25 / SAT 1210 / WorkKeys 18; up to $5,250 at 3.0 GPA or ACT 23 / SAT 1130 / WorkKeys 15; and up to $3,500 at 2.5 GPA or ACT 21 / SAT 1060 / WorkKeys 12. Students receive the equivalent of eight full-time disbursements within eight years of high school graduation. Qualification requires completing a specified rigorous high school curriculum, and the WorkKeys alternative to ACT and SAT deliberately opens the award to students heading into career and technical education rather than only to the university-bound. Funds are usable at participating Alaska colleges, universities and approved career and technical programmes; the FAFSA priority deadline is 30 June.
