Since 1949 the Ezell Fellowships have supported graduate students enrolled in a full-time programme of study and training related to vision research leading to a master's or PhD degree. Fellowships run for one year and include two US$1,000 travel grants, one to attend the annual American Academy of Optometry meeting and one for the annual Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology meeting. Applications are reviewed by the AAO Research Committee for scientific merit, then by the Programs Advisory Committee, with final decisions made by the Academy and Foundation.
