An annual award from the American Association on Health and Disability for students with a disability who are enrolled at sophomore standing or above as undergraduates, or in graduate study, at an accredited US university, and who are US citizens or legal residents. Scholarships are generally $1,000, with the amount at the discretion of the AAHD Board scholarship committee. Preference goes to students majoring in public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education or another field related to disability and health — rehabilitation engineering in particular makes this one of the few disability-specific awards aimed squarely at an engineering discipline. Applications require a personal statement of up to two pages, a faculty recommendation, a transcript and disability documentation.
