Conference Archive — GAB / WIGSAT
The Gender, Science and Technology (GST) conference brought together researchers, policy advocates, and development practitioners to advance the international agenda on gender equity in science, technology, and knowledge systems. The conference series was part of the broader ecosystem of events and networks — including the GASAT biennial conferences — that built and sustained the global women-in-STEM research community.
Proceedings and summaries from the GST conference were hosted in the GAB and WIGSAT archives as part of the network's commitment to open access and knowledge sharing. They represent a snapshot of the research priorities, policy debates, and institutional challenges that occupied the gender and S&T community at specific moments in the field's development.
Conference sessions typically covered the full range of the GST agenda: measurement and indicators for women's S&T participation, case studies of successful interventions, the policy environment for gender mainstreaming in national and international science agencies, and the emerging research on specific sectors such as agricultural science, ICTs, and biomedical research.
These proceedings complement the more formal publications of the Gender Advisory Board and provide a richer record of the debates and emerging thinking that preceded the GAB's policy documents.
The GASAT (Gender and Science and Technology Association) biennial conference series ran from the 1980s through the 2000s and produced one of the earliest sustained bodies of peer-reviewed research on gender in science education and careers. WIGSAT hosts a portion of the GASAT archive and conference records at wigsat.org/gasat/.
